A woman is being investigated by NSW Police after allegedly directing an anti-Semitic slur at Jewish players during a children’s netball game at Maroubra in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday.

Police were called to the Heffron Park netball courts on Saturday morning and it was alleged that a parent watching from the sidelines had made the slur.

It’s understood that it is alleged the woman said “f**k the Jews” and “they should have all been eradicated”.

The woman was not arrested, and was given a move-on order by police.

NSW Police confirmed investigations were ongoing.

“Just after 10am today, police were called to netball courts on Fitzgerald Avenue, Maroubra, after reports a woman had made offensive comments towards a group of people,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended and spoke with a 42-year-old woman.

“She was given a move-on direction and inquiries into the incident are continuing.”

The incident came as the Royal Commission on antisemitism and social cohesion began with the first block of hearings in Sydney this week.

Commissioner Virginia Bell heard evidence from Jewish Australians of being racially abused in the street, including at sporting fields.
