Significant delays are expected with a major road in Port Adelaide closed and parts of a train line impacted following a bus crash.
Emergency services responded to a crash involving a passenger bus and a rail bridge support on Commercial Rd at Baynes Place first reported at 8:47am Tuesday.
Witnesses claimed the bus had swerved to avoid a car that had pulled out of a side road.
Road closures are in place in both directions on Commercial Road between Grand Junction Road and Dale Street.
Trains on the Outer Harbor Line have been cancelled between Alberton and Outer Harbor.
The service will terminate at Alberton and return to Adelaide Railway Station.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
The incident is expected to cause “significant delays” according to SA Police, while emergency services work at the scene.
The bus crashed into the rail support column head on, leaving glass and debris strewn across Commercial Rd.
The driver of the bus was trapped in the wreckage for around an hour, before firefighters freed them just after 10am.
Meanwhile Minster for Infrastructure and Transport Joe Szakacs wrote to his Facebook about the serious crash.
“My thoughts are with the driver and impacted passengers,” Mr Szakacs said.
