A bus driver has been left seriously injured after crashing into a concrete rail bridge pillar in Port Adelaide.
Police were called to Commercial Road and Baynes Place after reports the bus had crashed into a concrete bridge support at 8.45am on Tuesday.
The driver, a 37-year-old man from Kensington Park, was trapped in the wreckage for an hour while emergency services stabilised him at the scene.
A 28-year-old passenger was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while three other passengers were assessed at the scene.
Road closures are in place, and train services along Adelaide’s Outer Harbor line have been disrupted while officers inspect the extent of damage caused to the bridge.
In a post on Facebook, South Australia’s Infrastructure and Transport Minister Joe Szakacs expressed concern for the driver and passengers.
“A serious bus crash has occurred at Commercial Road bridge, Port Adelaide,” he said.
“Emergency Services are in attendance.
“My thoughts are with the driver and impacted passengers.”
Nine.com.au said emergency services remained at the scene until 11.30am.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
