Craig Fitzgibbon revealed he is sick of waiting for the penny to drop with his inconsistent side, after the Sharks were thrashed 36-12 by the Rabbitohs in Round 10.
A week after they put 52 points on the Tigers, the Sharks were blown off the park by Souths to trail 30-0 late in the game and Fitzgibbon was clearly irritated after taking his team behind closed doors for a half-time spray.

“I thought we had a Shark-like performance last week, but not tonight,” Fitzgibbon said.
“It just looked more important to them, and not important enough to us.”
Fitzgibbon has challenged his side to find consistency all season, but so far they haven’t got the message.
“I’m getting a bit sick of waiting for it to be honest,” Fitzgibbon said.
“I’m not going to shy away for it, either. It’s up to us. We still believe we’ve got a good side, we’ve got a strong squad, but we’re not displaying it regularly.
“The NRL is a tight competition. Everyone’s playing good footy and scores are fluctuating, momentum’s fluctuating, and what you do with that is up to you and at the moment we’re waiting, not taking, and we’ll do something about that.”
Asked if he was happy with his side’s finish to the game after scoring two late tries, Fitzgibbon found little consolation with the game already decided.
“Not really, to be honesty I thought it was a false economy for what happens and the simple things and basics you do in a game, and I just didn’t think we were doing hard enough stuff, hard enough,” Fitzgibbon said.

“That creates an energy and once the energy is not in your favour, calls go against you, everything goes against you and I just didn’t think we were hard enough tonight.
“It’s a contest, it is what it is, if you win the contest, things go your way, and if you don’t, they don’t and they didn’t.”
Compounding the loss Sharks skipper Blayke Brailey suffered a category one head knock, but is still hopeful he can play in Magic Round.
“Feeling good, I know the club will look at it, and I feel fine,” Brailey said.
“I feel good, I feel normal, so hopefully I can play next week.”
Bailey lamented his side’s inability to convert pressure into points, but praised Souths as the better side.
“I felt like we did have momentum at times, but credit to them, they defended well, they kicked the ball long, and I thought they played a really good game,” Brailey said.

“So good in patches, but overall not a good 80-minute performance, and that’s what we need against a good side.”
Despite the loss knocking the Sharks out of the top eight, Fitzgibbon was stoic when pressed on his side’s chances of turning it around, but conceded it is up to the players to pay the price each week.
“The only way out for us is through,” Fitzgibbon said.
“Just harden up, just do the simple things better. Our strong performances this year have been strong, but it’s been inconsistent, and we’ve got to get consistent on the simple things and the hard things.

“Until we learn those lessons, we’ve just got to harden up, and we’ll do that. We’ll figure it out. It’s part of the course.
“We have these wobbles every year and we tend to do something about it, but sick of waiting for it as well.
“We’ll get back to work next week, and it’s still a long, long way to go, and still a lot of belief and confidence in the group we have, but we need to start seeing more as well.”
