Taukeiaho was injured in the process of scoring Manly’s fourth try of the night, pushing its lead against Brisbane out to 20-4 early in the second half.

However, the jubilant cheers on the hill quickly turned into an uneasy silence after it became clear Taukeiaho would need assistance.

The veteran front rower was stretchered off the field and given a green whistle to help ease some of the pain, with an ambulance called to take him to a nearby hospital.

Fox League’s Jake Duke later reported in an update from the club that Taukeiaho had suffered a suspected fractured tibia.

“That’s ugly… I hope this is not serious and this is a short-term situation… these are concerning scenes here,” Dan Ginnane said in commentary.

“This is the team ahead 20 to 4 but this is a dour moment. This man has played nearly 200 first grade games.”

Taukeiaho, a two-time premiership winner, has played 194 NRL games and is off-contract at the end of the year.

The 34-year-old had been enjoying a resurgence in the NRL after a brief period in the Super League, having feared at one point his rugby league career was over when he was axed by Catalans.
