Anthony Albanese has been heckled at the Bush Summit as Angus Taylor and Pauline Hanson prepare to take the stage.

The Prime Minister copped a grilling on issues including renewable energy and over-regulation of businessnes in the bush.

Prior to flying into Dubbo, NSW, the Prime Minister convened premiers and chief ministers for national cabinet where they received a briefing on the outbreak of H5N1 avian flu which has been detected in all six states.

On Thursday, Regional Development Minister Kristy McBain was poised to announce another $22.2m to the 2026-27 Black Spot Program with about half of the funding reserved to address safety concerns in the regions.

This includes nearly $3m to upgrade the road on Yamba Rd and Palmers Channel Northbank Road east in the Clarence Valley, NSW, plus $1.1m to upgrade safety measures on Yass Valley Way after multiple fatalities were recorded in the area.

Beyond chats with political leaders, panels at the summit on Thursday will also focus on regional growth and resilience, how the energy transition is affecting farmers and how policymakers can bridge the tyranny of distance in providing healthcare, education and services in the bush.

The Opposition Leader will also use Thursday’s event to announce that $1.5bn of the Coalition’s $5bn Housing Infrastructure Fund would be “ring-fenced” for regional, rural and remote Australia.

Nationals leader Matt Canavan said with more than half of Australia’s population living in just five cities, it was time to develop the rest of the nation.
