A person has died and two others have been seriously injured after a crash in Canberra’s north this morning.
ACT Policing said the three cyclists were hit by a car on Gungahlin Drive in Palmerston about 6:30am.
The crash occurred just south of the Kosciuszko Avenue intersection.
The Emergency Services Agency (ESA) issued an alert to say Gungahlin Drive was closed in both directions from Well Station Drive to The Valley Avenue.
It said the road would be closed “for some time”.
Personnel from ACT Fire & Rescue, the ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Policing were all at the scene.
ACT police later confirmed one person had died, one person was in a critical condition and another was in a serious condition.
The community has been asked to avoid the area and use an alternative route.
The death is the 10th fatality on ACT roads this year.

In a social media post, the Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club said the cyclist who died was a member of its local group.
The club said it was exploring “support options” for its members.
“Please look after each other this morning and we will share more information when possible,” the post said.
The triathlon club is Canberra’s biggest, with around 300 members spanning beginners and experienced triathletes, according to its website.
Advocacy group ‘heartbroken’
Cycling advocacy group Pedal Power described the crash as “heartbreaking” and extended its condolences to loved ones of the person who died.
“Our thoughts are also with the injured riders, the driver, everyone waiting for news and the emergency services personnel who responded,” Pedal Power ACT Executive Director Cecily Michaels said.
In a statement, the organisation urged the public not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the crash while they remain under investigation.
