Brisbane Airport has secured the city’s first Costco, complete with a 34-bowser fuel station, as part of a new mixed-use precinct.
The 15,600 square metre warehouse will sit on a 6.7-hectare site and include 870 car parking spaces alongside the fuel station, which Costco says will allow for quick refuelling. The store is due to open in late 2029 and will be Costco’s first in Brisbane City and its fourth in Queensland.
Chris Tingman, Country Manager for Costco Australia and New Zealand, said the warehouse represented an investment of more than $145 million in retail development and reflected confidence in the region.
“It is great news for our members across Brisbane. This is a dynamic and fast-growing region, and we look forward to bringing even greater value to members through our wide range of products and services.”
Perimeter drainage works have already begun on the broader 51-hectare development site, which is centrally located and more than three times the size of South Bank Parklands. Once complete, the Costco warehouse will employ approximately 250 full-time staff.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO of Brisbane Airport, said Costco’s arrival was the first of several announcements planned for the new precinct, which sits just 12 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD with direct access to South East Queensland’s road network.
“Costco’s commitment marks the beginning of a new chapter for Brisbane Airport and is the first of many announcements to come as we bring to life a new mixed-use precinct for the city.”
De Graaff added that Costco would occupy just 12 per cent of the site, leaving room for other tenants to establish themselves alongside the retailer.
The development forms part of Brisbane Airport’s $5 billion Future BNE transformation, which the airport says is creating jobs and strengthening its role in the Queensland economy.
