One of seven teens charged over alleged murder of Brisbane man Oliver Conroy after dating app set-up seeks bail

A teenager accused of murder after a man was allegedly lured to a fake date, ambushed and killed in a bid to steal his car has applied for bail, with his lawyer questioning his role and knowledge of the alleged attack.

The 15-year-old boy is one of seven teenagers accused over the fatal attack on 27-year-old Oliver Conroy in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane, about 10.30pm on July 24.

Police allege Conroy was lured to the area through a bogus dating app profile before being ambushed and having his blue BYD Shark 6 stolen.

He was found seriously injured in the middle of the street by neighbours and taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he died almost two weeks later on August 6.

The seven teenagers, five boys aged between 15 and 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15, were initially charged with a range of offences following the alleged assault and car theft.

Those charges were upgraded to murder after Conroy’s death under Queensland’s “adult crime, adult time” laws.

Distressing videos showing violence and alleged boasting have previously been played in court.

On Friday, details emerged of an alleged plan to “snatch and grab” Conroy’s money.

One teenager is also believed to have said they were on their way to attack a paedophile.

The 15-year-old’s lawyer, Brendan Beavon, said his client should not have to remain in youth detention while the case makes its way through court.

“I’m sure he would prefer to be at home than remanded in the youth detention centre while he awaits his trial or whatever the finalisation might be,” Beavon told 7NEWS.

Asked by 7NEWS whether his client had gone to the meeting with a plan to murder Conroy, Beavon declined to comment.

The other accused teenagers remain in custody.

A decision on the 15-year-old’s bail application is expected next week.
