A dramatic new lookout is set to transform Cecil Park, offering sweeping 360-degree views from one of the Sydney Basin’s highest natural vantage points.
Designed as a destination for walkers, runners, cyclists and families, the sunset point will provide the perfect setting to take in the sunset, enjoy a picnic and soak up the views.
What’s changing at Beauty Spot Lookout

Known locally as “The Beauty Spot”, the 149-metre-high ridgeline in Western Sydney Parklands already draws visitors for its uninterrupted panoramas across the Sydney Basin to the Blue Mountains.
Now, the NSW Government has unveiled a staged concept design to transform the site into a more accessible, visitor-friendly destination while keeping its open grassland character intact.
Stage 1—expected to start construction in late 2026 and finish by mid-2027—will deliver a new pathway leading to the ridgeline lookout, multiple viewing points and gathering areas, seating integrated into the native landscape, and native landscaping with environmental enhancements.
The design uses durable, parkland-grade materials and deliberately retains existing open grassland areas to minimise visual and ecological impact.
Future stages could add shade structures, improved entry points, visitor parking, amenities and shelters, plus opportunities to celebrate First Nations culture through on-site interpretation and storytelling.
Longer-term plans also explore expanding the lookout into a broader visitor destination with better access and more spaces for gathering and recreation.

Located about 40 kilometres from the CBD within Liverpool’s local government area, the site sits inside the Greater Sydney Parklands’ Southern Parklands Framework—a long-term plan to boost recreation, visitor experiences and connections to nature across the southern precinct of Western Sydney Parklands.
Moreover, with South Western Sydney’s population growing quickly, the upgrade aims to give local communities a quality outdoor space close to home that supports wellbeing and active lifestyles.
Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty added: “Whether you’re walking, running, cycling or spending time with family and friends, this lookout will open up some of Western Sydney’s most spectacular views for more people to experience.”
Greater Sydney Parklands Chief Executive Joshua French said the design encourages visitors to “slow down, immerse themselves in the landscape and take in the changing views across Western Sydney and towards the Blue Mountains”.
The draft concept design is now open for community feedback until 27th September. Residents and visitors can review the plans and submit comments.
Getting there (for now)
Today, visitors reach the Beauty Spot via Range Road in Cecil Park, parking near the Wylde MTB Trail before walking to the viewpoint. It takes approximately 40 minutes to reach from Sydney’s CBD.
The existing track, known as The Walk, protects the area’s natural setting and minimises impacts on its ecological and heritage values. The new designs will preserve these qualities while improving access to the lookout.
