Victorian commuters are being warned of major road and rail disruptions this spring with freeways and key intersections shutdown.
Road closures and replacement buses will hit almost every part of Melbourne and some regional areas over the coming months, causing a major headache for tens of thousands of commuters.
The Eastern Freeway will be closed to traffic between Chandler Highway and Tram Rd from 10pm on September 11pm to 5am on September 14, and for a weekend in mid-October.
The planned works will cause major delays while upgrade works continue on the Doncaster Road interchange.
Part of Bulleen Rd will also be closed from September 18 to early October as Bulleen interchange works continue.
The M80 Ring Road Plenty Rd ramps will close on some weekends and overnights, and part of Grimshaw St will close for the weekend from 9pm Friday 11 September to 5am Monday September 14.
More traffic headaches are also on the way for drivers in Melbourne’s outer southeast, with the Thompsons Rd and Berwick-Cranbourne Rd intersection in Clyde North closed from September 18 to 24.
The upgraded intersection will open to traffic in October after final asphalt works have been completed.
As works progress on the Suburban Rail Loop, Bay Rd will close for one day in late September as part of underground service works.
In nearby Berwick, part of Clyde Rd will be closed for two weekends in September, and the Princes Freeway outbound under Clyde Rd will be closed for a weekend in October.
Over in the West, traffic will be halted on the Point Cook Rd bridge until mid-September, when the intersection will open with new traffic signals.
The old freeway exit ramp will also close from mid-September to early November.
The Ballan Rd intersection in Wyndham Vale will also be closed for a weekend in November due to asphalt and line-mark works.
Coburns Rd will close between September 6 and 24 to remove the train tracks and resurface the road following the addition of an elevated rail bridge over Coburns Rd and Exford Rd as part of the Melton station upgrade.
Maddox Rd in Newport is closed now until September 15 when the new rail bridge will open.
Detours will be in place until September 22 in Dandenong on Hammond and Cheltenham roads to construct a new underpass and replace the Webster St level crossing.
Four level crossings will be removed across the city during the Spring works blitz.
In the North, the Northern Highway intersection upgrade will close the eastern side of the Watson St and Northern Highway intersection from September 18 to October 5.
Commuters on the Seymour, Shepparton, Bairnsdale and Albury lines will be forced onto replacement coaches at various times across September for maintenance and Inland Rail works.
Roads and Road Safety Minister Paul Hamer thanked “Victorians for their patience while we deliver the infrastructure our growing state needs”.
