International leg-spinner Sarah Glenn will tackle a new challenge this season, signing on for the WBBL Brisbane Heat for the entire Weber Women’s Big Bash League.
Glenn, who played with the Heat as an International Replacement Player in WBBL|09 and last season, is the first WBBL player signing to be announced since the Player Embargo period ended last week or all clubs.
The crafty leg-spinner has twice taken four wicket hauls for the Heat in the WBBL, including 4-18 last season against the Sydney Thunder.
Glenn, 27, has signed for all of WBBL|12, including the Finals.
Heat coach Mark Sorell expressed his delight at the club’s eighth player signing.
“We’re rapt to have ‘Glenny’ back with us, and this time for the entire competition,’’ Sorell said.
“She’s an outstanding person, great team player, and as we have seen, a very skilful bowler who will complement our attack in whatever role we ask of her.”
“I’ve been keeping an eye on her bowling during the year and her efforts for Yorkshire and for the Southern Brave in The Hundred have been excellent.”
Glenn and former Heat captain Jess Jonassen played for Yorkshire during the English summer this year, alongside Queensland Fire regular Lauren Winfield-Hill. She was also a teammate of Charli Knott with the Southern Brave in The Hundred.
She has taken more than 100 wickets in white ball matches for England.
Glenn has played 73 T20 Internationals for England, taking 89 wickets at 16.48 with an economy rate of 6.05, as well as 23 wickets from her 19 ODI games.
Brisbane finished eighth last season after a difficult competition that saw injuries and player unavailability sentence them to a winless competition.
However, they attracted a sell-out crowd at Allan Border Field during the season.
With the signing of Glenn, the Heat have secured eight players to date, with further signings to be announced.
Clubs can have a maximum squad size of 18 players in KFC BBL|16 and 15 players in Weber WBBL|12.
