Published every Thursday, Snack Bar is your bite-sized guide to everything happening in Sydney food and drink, including new menus, events, pop-ups and special offers. Plus, we round up every new restaurant, bar and cafe we covered over the previous seven days.

What’s on around town

• Enmore Road’s Bar Demo is pouring $15 Negronis on Tuesdays – all night long.

• Good Measure pops up in two Sydney venues. Find the Melbourne cafe-wine bar’s signature Mont Blancs at Single O in Surry Hills on Sunday September 13, from 8am till 3pm. Then, swing by Enmore’s Bar Demo from 1pm on Monday September 14 for the team’s specialty pours and McMeasure Muffins while vinyl spins.

• Sonoma’s Alexandria bakery will host a bake sale for Nepal from 7am on Saturday September 5. Head in for momo sausage rolls, special slices of sourdough pizza and more – all proceeds go to the Nepal Disaster Relief Fund to support victims of last week’s devastating floods and landslides.

• Chippendale taqueria Radio Taco trades its tortillas for arepas all month long, with all profits from the dish donated to earthquake relief efforts in Colombia and Venezuela. The traditional Colombian flatbreads will hit the grill till they’re warm and cheesy, then be filled with your choice of birria. Available from 11am till 3pm, and 5pm till 9pm, throughout September.

Silver’s Motel celebrates one year on Enmore Road on Thursday September 3. Cruise in from 5pm for a welcome cocktail on the house, then $7 Grifters, $30 buckets of Crown Lagers, and $15 Espresso Martinis all night. Plus, steak frites and live jazz. Free entry.

• Vin-Cenzo’s is hosting a Darlinghurst block party to celebrate its first birthday. On Sunday September 20, Melbourne institution Tipo 00 will be collaborating in the kitchen, and Giorgio De Maria is on wine duty. Book quick for the lunch service, or arrive from 3pm for the snackier block party.

• Exceptional Shanghai restaurant Bastard jets to Sydney for a one-night-only takeover in Newtown. The team will collaborate with South End on a multi-course meal on Monday October 12. Expect bluefin tuna cheung fun, mud crab spring rolls, drunken pigeon and a very special mango 1000-crepe cake. Bookings essential.

• Poly fires up the barbeque for Friday and Saturday lunches. The Surry Hills wine bar trades its fire-kissed plates for a play-your-way barbeque spread. Choose your meat (porcini-rubbed Wagyu chuck steak, perhaps?), then wait for it to arrive surrounded by sides like miso-braised cabbage, buttered rice and fried spuds. Dine in or take away.

• World-renowned chef Mursal Saiq takes over Kyiv Social in Chippendale on Saturday September 5. Expect a skewer party championing the Afghan-Texas barbeque flavours she’s known for. Walk-ins only, from midday.

What we covered this week

• Carlisle Castle Hotel, Newtown. The Bat and Ball team’s thoughtful revamp of the Sydney boozer is complete. Head in for $20 schnitzels on Monday, live jazz and $15 Martinis on Thursday, and more.

L’Massif Cave, Surry Hills. This new natural wine bar is inspired by the standing bars of Tokyo and the small team’s appreciation of natural drops. Pop in and pick your colour, then let them do the rest.

Six new sandwich shops, from Stanmore to Freshwater – including two with Indonesian flair and a Tetsuya alum’s latest venture.

House of Suns, Springwood. This roadside microbakery in the bush pops up one morning each week with caramel layer cakes, passionfruit alfajores and more filling its sunny yellow shelves.

Six new Potts Point venues for gelato, wine, Mexico City’s hottest tacos and the return of a Sydney-famous spaghetti.

Miss Sina, Dulwich Hill. These popular cinnamon buns have found a new inner west home. Plus, there’s a refreshed brunch offering and cream-topped lattes.

15 new Sydney restaurants, bars and cafes to try this month. Including a CBD outpost for our food editor’s favourite Portuguese tarts, a bar with a mean riff on a shandy, and a spot for mochi-topped tong sui.

You might’ve missed

Yum Club, Surry Hills. Ama’s follow-up will bring the spicy sour flavours of Thailand’s Isan region when it opens this spring.

Kisa, Glebe. The whimsical new bar leaves the seriousness behind and looks to Eastern Europe with wine from the Czech Republic, an apple crumble-esque cocktail and fresh-baked cakes.

Stanley, Manly. Celebrated chef Louis Tikaram returns to Sydney to open the first outpost of his celebrated Cantonese restaurant. Its dim sum, live seafood and exceptional Peking duck have found a home on the water.
