Well, well, well, it is finally happening. After years of fans begging The Real Housewives of Melbourne is coming back baby, and everyone’s favourite (albeit divisive) housewife, Gina Liano is returning to our screens.

After years off, The Real Housewives of Melbourne is officially kicking off again for Season 6, with production set to begin in 2027.

One of its most recognisable faces, Gina Liano, is the only housewife that has been confirmed to return for this new season of the reality series so far.

Liano is something of a Real Housewives of Melbourne institution. She was part of the original cast when the series launched in 2014, quickly becoming known for her absolutely brutal one-liners, extravagant hair and make-up and, naturally, her ability to find herself at the centre of the drama.

She is also a controversial figure within the Housewives fandom.

While Liano remains a firm favourite with many viewers, her later seasons attracted plenty of criticism online.

Now, she’s heading back to Melbourne’s most chaotic TV series.

“It’s been a while between drinks, but some things are worth waiting for,” Liano said in a statement announcing her return.

“I am delighted to be returning for the new season of The Real Housewives of Melbourne. I’ve missed the glamour, the fabulous women and, of course, the drama.”

Liano said she is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, meeting new ones and “causing a little trouble along the way.”

And if the announcement is anything to go by, trouble is very much still on the menu.

A hiatus

The series originally ran from 2014 until 2021, becoming one of Foxtel’s biggest reality franchises in the process.

Season 6 will once again follow a group of women as they navigate Melbourne’s high society, with the new cast expected to include both returning Housewives and new faces.

Exactly who else will be joining Liano is still under wraps.

One thing this birdie knows is that just five days ago, Real Housewives of Melbourne alumni, Jackie Gillies, posted a photo with Gina and herself on a “dinner date”. On that same day, Gina also posted a photo with Jackie and their co-star Lydia.

I’m not saying it means anything, but since the three have apparently stayed close could Jackie and/or Lydia also be returning as a housewife or a friend of?

We shall see, as further cast announcements are expected in the coming months.

The new season is being produced by ITV Studios Australia and Universal Television Alternative Studio UK Productions, the companies behind reality franchises including Love Island Australia, The Voice and The Real Housewives of London.

For fans who have spent the past few years wondering whether the Melbourne Housewives would ever return, the wait is finally over.
