The Melbourne Stars have made their first big move since the Big Bash League’s contract embargo lifted last week, with Todd Murphy signing a one-year deal with the club.
The Victorian off-spinner has spent the past five seasons playing for the Sydney Sixers, but will return home for KFC BBL|16.
“I’m super excited to be back in Melbourne,” Murphy said.
“I feel like getting to play at the MCG is always exciting, so to have that on the horizon this year is awesome and I’m really keen to get started.
“[I’ve] travelled a little bit over the last couple of years, so it’s nice to know that those couple of months will be at home.”
In his 30 Big Bash matches, Murphy has had an economy rate of just 6.73 per over, with a bowling average of 22.14.
At just 25 years of age, Murphy has represented Australia in seven test matches and is a proven performer against the world’s best batsmen.
Murphy becomes the Stars’ 11th contracted player for BBL|16, with the club able to fill seven more positions before the start of the season.
