Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who was shot dead in Melbourne’s north last night.
Emergency services were called to Victoria Drive in Thomastown after reports a man had been shot outside a property about 7:30pm.
Despite efforts to revive the man, he died at the scene.
Victoria Police said no arrests had been made and the man was yet to be formally identified.
The shooting happened near a local soccer club, where junior matches had been played several hours earlier.
The club’s president said the shooting was “not a good look” but was not related to the club.
“There were a lot of kids here, we had a couple of hundred kids participating in their last junior event, so lucky there was no-one around,” he told 774 ABC Melbourne.

He said cleaners were inside the clubhouse when they noticed a group of people gathering where the man had been shot.
Another man who lives nearby said a group of about 50 people gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting.
“It rattles you a bit. You never heard of anything like this in the past and now it’s happening in the street behind your house,” he said.
“I’d imagine everyone that was here would still be shaken. The neighbours who live across the road, I can’t imagine what they’d be feeling.”
