Not many gave the Sydney Swans a chance of beating the Brisbane Lions in their Qualifying Final at the SCG, but Dean Cox’s side believed.

With the infamous five out, plus Callum Mills going down injured during the game, the Swans were up against it, but you wouldn’t know it as they ran out easy 53-point winners to book their spot in a Preliminary Final.

It was a surreal performance from the Swans as they dominated the contest in a manner not many saw coming…including the Lions.

In fact, Brisbane thought the Swans didn’t have it in them to win the game, according to forward Tom Papley.

A guest on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, Papley revealed that the Lions players were saying that the Swans would fold.

“During the game, I thought Brisbane were probably thinking we were going to fold, they were saying it out there,” Papley said.

Swans daring to dream

With another week to rest, the Swans are hosting a Preliminary Final against either Fremantle or Geelong, and if they bring the same intensity as they did against the Lions, it will be a colossal battle.

Losing Mills hurts, as it is another star player and leader down, but the Swans are running on momentum and a burning desire to make sure this season isn’t a waste.

Now, will it finally catch up with them? Who knows, but what the win over Brisbane showed is that the Swans still have plenty of weaponry to scare teams.

Time will tell if it is enough to book their spot in the Grand Final.
