Brisbane property developer Andrew Gray has joined league legend Darren Lockyer and Grant Wechsel’s ownership consortium of the London Broncos.

Gray is the co-founder and co-owner with his brother Rob of the award-winning high-end luxury residential developer builder Graya which currently manages a pipeline of more than $1bn.

Gray joins the consortium after Lockyer and Wechsel – who is also the executive chairman of MWG Mining and Aura Mining – acquired 90 per cent of the struggling club in late 2025, aiming to transform into a success on and off the field.

There has also been speculation that the London Broncos’ journey could by chronicled like the Hollywood-backed Welsh football team Wrexham on the Disney channel.

The London Broncos currently sit undefeated on top of the Betfred Championship ladder after 11 rounds and is aiming to join the first division Betfred Super League as soon as possible.

Gray says that when the opportunity arose to join Wechsel and Lockyer as part of the ownership group of the London Broncos was something “I couldn’t turn down”.

“Grant and Darren’s long-term vision for the club and their passion to put rugby league back on the map in London is something I want to be part of,” he says.

“I know the hard work they have already put into building the club to where it is today and I’m proud to go on this journey with them and excited for the years to come.”

Wechsel says they’re aiming to create a tight consortium of shareholders who could add value to the club.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Andrew as a shareholder. His investment shows a strong belief in the vision we have for London but also adds a lot of value to the group in what we can learn from their success with Graya,” he says.

The London Broncos are one of Super League’s founding clubs before being relegated in 2014. The club has fought its way back to the top-tier competition twice, but has been unable to hold the position.

The new consortium is backed by the Brisbane Broncos, rekindling a historic link between the two clubs dating back to the 1990s.

Surfs up

One of Australia’s most significant surf and lifestyle destinations which the developers aim to build on the Sunshine Coast is a step closer.

Surf Farm has announced that surf and snow park developer and operator Global Shred Ventures have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the development and equity partnership arrangements for the wave park project.

Surf Farm will feature a 62 module Wavegarden Cove their most advanced and versatile system to date.

The project will combine premium surf experiences with integrated food and beverage, retail

and wellness offerings, creating a destination designed for both local communities as well as

domestic and international tourism.

Executive chairman of Global Shred Ventures Adam Lamond says as the development partner

and equity participant, they will help oversee project delivery and long-term operational strategy.

“This project aligns strongly with GSV’s strategy of delivering high-quality, community-focused surf destinations that create long-term economic and social value,” he says.
