{"id":1062,"date":"2026-04-29T03:49:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T03:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/1062\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T03:49:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T03:49:11","slug":"moment-protesters-burst-into-resource-industry-breakfast-in-perth-attended-by-anthony-albanese-and-wa-premier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/1062\/","title":{"rendered":"Moment protesters burst into resource industry breakfast in Perth attended by Anthony Albanese and WA Premier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three protesters have been forced from a resources industry breakfast attended by the Prime Minister in Perth on Wednesday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The group shouted over diners calling for disruptions to Woodside\u2019s Burrup Hub liquified natural gas project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One protester,\u00a0wearing a blue blazer and\u00a0moleskins,\u00a0led the trio to the event stage\u00a0but was swiftly collected by security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Event organisers turned up background music as two further protesters, one in a hoodie and the other in a green anorak, were escorted from the room.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister, Western Australia Premier Roger Cook and Woodside\u2019s boss Liz Westcott were among those dining at the Westin Hotel for the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA event.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Albanese was asked at a press conference after the breakfast whether the security breach was a concern, given a recent alleged assassination attempt on the US president at a dinner with journalists.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity for people in public life is an issue, there are a range of people who have been charged over issues related to myself and others,\u201d Mr Albanese replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be able to have discourse and have debate which is respectful, I don\u2019t duck from attending or engaging in events like this&#8230; and it&#8217;s a good thing in Australia.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said Australians had a right to protest, but some political rhetoric should be \u201cturned down\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have a right to protest by all means and to express their views, but they should do so in a way that is appropriate and we work with security agencies on this but I would say that we need also to turn the temperature down on public debate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no need for some of the positions that are put forward in the manner they are put forward.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He revealed there were upgrades currently underway at Kirribilli House in response to an increase in malicious activity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Woodside\u2019s Burrup Peninsula gas project is designed to\u00a0consolidate\u00a0interconnected gas supply projects in the Pilbara.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Opponents, including the Greens and Conservation Council of WA, argued the large-scale project posed an environmental threat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Labor government has\u00a0maintained\u00a0projects related to the \u201chub\u201d,\u00a0including the\u00a0North West\u00a0Shelf extension,\u00a0are subject to \u201crigorous environmental approval processes\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Albanese announced a $1.1 billion road infrastructure funding boost for the Westport container development.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also announced\u00a0cash for state governments fast-tracking their own agreements relating to environmental\u00a0approvals\u00a0processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government will provide more than $45 million over four years to progress bilateral agreements with states and territories that will reduce duplication,\u201d a joint release from the Prime Minister and Environment Minister Murray Watt read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Addressing industry executives in Perth on Wednesday,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Albanese said the resources sector would be critical to navigating economic threats and weaknesses exposed by the war in the Middle East.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Continual closures of the Strait of Hormuz have crippled the international energy market, driven up fuel prices, and sown uncertainty in global trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of us here can determine when this war will end, but all of us can choose how we respond to the economic challenges it is creating.
