A second person has been charged with child exploitation material offences linked to the criminal case involving author Craig Silvey.<\/p>\n
Maylands man Gregory John Welton, 57, pleaded guilty to producing and distributing child exploitation material, along with possessing a weapon, in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The court was told police found Mr Welton produced mainly written stories and distributed a single image in January and February this year.<\/p>\n
Police also found an unlicensed weapon in his bedside drawer that he acquired when he worked as a security guard several years ago.Mr Welton was granted bail by the court and fined $300 for possessing a weapon.<\/p>\n
His lawyer asked the magistrate if Mr Welton\u2019s bail conditions could include an exemption for him to use the internet to seek FIFO work and legal advice, attend medical appointments online and use it for entertainment.<\/p>\n
The matter was moved to the Perth District Court where Mr Welton will be sentenced for possessing and distributing child exploitation material, and he is due to appear on July 10.<\/p>\n
Mr Welton is the second person to face charges linked to Silvey, after police raided his Fremantle home and seized electronic devices in January.<\/p>\n
A Perth grandma is also accused of producing and distributing child exploitation material in connection with Silvey and is yet to plead to charges.<\/p>\n
Glenda Joy McGregor, 68, is currently being held in custody at Melaleuca Prison, where she has been remanded over child exploitation offences and failing to comply with reporting obligations.<\/p>\n
