A man has been hit with 25 charges after an alleged car jacking crime spree across Brisbane where several people were threatened with a knife.<\/p>\n
Police allege the crime spree began about 8am on Wednesday when the man threatened a woman with a knife at a Chelmer home and stole her blue BMW coupe.<\/p>\n
The woman was not physically injured during the incident.<\/p>\n
Hours later about 1.45pm, a police helicopter tracked the BMW to Kittyhawk Drive in Chermside where the driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and hijacked a white Audi A1.<\/p>\n
The 67-year-old driver of the Audi was injured during the carjacking and taken to the hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n
Polair continued to track the Audi as it sped through Chermside and Stafford. <\/p>\n
During the pursuit, police will allege the man attempted to steal at least five other vehicles at knifepoint.<\/p>\n
Aerial vision from the helicopter shows the man stopping in the middle of a rail crossing near South Pine Road and Farrington Street at Alderley. <\/p>\n
Footage shows the man exiting the vehicle and jumping into the passenger seat of a black car, forcing the driver to flee their seat.<\/p>\n
Police then arrested the 35-year-old Spring Hill man.<\/p>\n
The man has since been charged with a total of three counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry motor vehicle, and attempted unlawful entry motor vehicle, two counts each of wilful damage, attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery with violence, and one count each of robbery with violence, evade police, obstruct police, threats and stealing.<\/p>\n
The accused, Darren Brian Cutmore, made no application for bail at the matter\u2019s first mention at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n
ATSILS lawyer Garth Wade requested an adjournment to Friday so that Cutmore could be seen by the Court Liaison Service, which typically assists defendants by providing mental health assessments.<\/p>\n
Court documents reveal Cutmore allegedly threatened a woman with a machete some days prior to the alleged carjacking spree at an address in Chermside. Police further allege he stole the woman\u2019s phone and car.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s alleged Cutmore was armed with a kitchen knife at times throughout the carjacking, and that he assaulted a police officer prior to his arrest in Alderley.<\/p>\n
