A classic Brisbane nightclub is shutting down, marking the end of a more than 40-year run as one of the city\u2019s most beloved venues.<\/p>\n
Friday\u2019s Riverside announced on Monday it was \u201csaying goodbye\u201d to its long-standing home at 123 Eagle Street, with its final day of operations to be Sunday, May 24.<\/p>\n
In a social media post, Friday\u2019s invited locals to enjoy one last Friday or \u201cSanctuary Saturday\u201d by the water to give the iconic venue a \u201cproper farewell\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cMake sure you come down and say goodbye before we close the doors,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s send off Fridays the way it deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Social media users lamented the closure, while others shared memories from decades past.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my god its closing. I still remember the amazing times we had here. I can still hear the music and picture us dancing,\u201d one user said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh so many memories, late 80s, v early 90s… so good!\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, dozens of others called the closure \u201csad\u201d, \u201cdevastating\u201d and that it was an \u201cend of an era\u201d.<\/p>\n
On Google, Friday\u2019s Riverside has a 4.1 rating and many recent five-star reviews.<\/p>\n
In a social media forum, Reddit users shared stories of their time at the venue, with one saying he was a duty manager in the 1986, apologising for all the \u201changovers and headaches\u201d caused by late-night parties.<\/p>\n
Another said he saw gold-medallist speed skater Steven Bradbury dancing there in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, another said the venue should have been heritage listed.<\/p>\n
