A man and an infant have died and another three people have been seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney\u2019s west. <\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Mamre Rd and Abbott Rd in Kemps Creek about 10.40pm Monday.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, paramedics found a sedan and van had collided head-on.<\/p>\n
A man who was in the passenger seat of the sedan died at the scene. <\/p>\n
A 25-year-old woman and a 15-month-old child, who were in the back seats, sustained critical injuries in the collision. <\/p>\n
They were taken to Westmead Hospital and The Children\u2019s Hospital in Westmead.<\/p>\n
The infant died after arriving at hospital.<\/p>\n
The driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old man on his learner\u2019s permit, and the driver of the van, a 45-year-old man, both sustained minor injuries. <\/p>\n
\u201cBoth men were taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment and mandatory testing,\u201d police said. <\/p>\n
Police were told the sedan crashed into a ute first before continuing down the road and colliding with the van. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe male driver of the ute escaped unharmed,\u201d police said in a statement. <\/p>\n
An investigation into the incident has been launched, with police blocking off roads with police tape. <\/p>\n
Mamre Rd has since reopened in both directions. <\/p>\n
However, the road between Elizabeth Drive and Bakers Lane remains closed.<\/p>\n
\u201cMotorists should continue to allow extra travel time in the area while traffic conditions return to normal,\u201d a LiveTaffic NSW statement read.<\/p>\n
