{"id":14403,"date":"2026-05-19T18:35:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:35:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/14403\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T18:35:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:35:26","slug":"a-league-melbourne-victory-confirm-diles-departure-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/14403\/","title":{"rendered":"A-League: Melbourne Victory confirm Diles departure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arthur Diles is adamant he\u2019s good enough to step into another A-League head coaching role despite being shown the door by Melbourne Victory.<\/p>\n<p>As revealed on Monday night by NewsWire, Diles was not offered a new deal by the four-time A-League champions, with the club on Tuesday morning confirming the 44-year-old mentor\u2019s departure in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel now is an appropriate time to make this change, viewing this juncture as an opportunity for the club to continue to evolve and build for success both today and tomorrow,\u201d Victory chairman John Dovaston said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would personally like to thank Arthur for his efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A former Victory assistant coach, Diles was elevated to the top job in December 2024 following the departure of Patrick Kisnorbo.<\/p>\n<p>In his 50 A-League games in charge of the Melbourne club, Diles won 20, lost 17 and drew 13.<\/p>\n<p>He guided Victory to last season\u2019s grand final. This season, Victory finished fourth on the ladder \u2013 enough to secure a berth in the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Two competition \u2013 before being knocked out in the first week of the finals by the Kisnorbo-coached Sydney FC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA grand final, a fourth-placed finish and Champions League (Two) qualification in two seasons is something that I\u2019m very proud of,\u201d Diles told NewsWire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is an opportunity to reflect on my time there and get ready for the next challenge, which I\u2019m sure won\u2019t be too far away.
