Queensland’s under-fire Olympics Minister Tim Mander has been referred to the Australian Federal Police over his electoral enrolment status.<\/p>\n

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) confirmed on Thursday it had made the referral.<\/p>\n

The election watchdog said it had sought information from Mr Mander about the matter, and this included an opportunity for him to provide information to support his enrolment claim.<\/p>\n

“While a determination has not been made, the AEC does consider that there is currently an absence of compelling evidence to determine Mr Mander resided at the enrolled address,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“As such, on 19 May the AEC referred this matter to the AFP for their consideration, and any action they consider appropriate.”<\/p>\n

In April, it was revealed Mr Mander had enrolled to vote at the address of a staff member.<\/p>\n

At the time, Mr Mander insisted he had updated the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) with his correct details every time his circumstances changed.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, when he was quizzed about the issue, Mr Mander said he was going through the process with the AEC.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to undermine that process,” he said.<\/p>\n

At a press conference in May, Mr Mander also insisted an Arana Hills address was his “principal place of residence” from early January to the end of March.<\/p>\n

The ABC has contacted the Premier David Crisafulli’s office to seek a response from Mr Mander.<\/p>\n

The sports minister, who represents the electorate of Everton in Brisbane’s north, has been in state parliament since 2012.<\/p>\n

In an address to parliament in April, Mr Mander announced he had written to the ECQ to “affirm” he had followed the appropriate process.<\/p>\n

“It is public knowledge that I had a marriage separation over a year ago, and many who have experienced similar circumstances would understand the uncertainty that can follow,” he said at the time.<\/p>\n

“During this period I am fortunate that I had friends to whom I could turn for support.<\/p>\n

“I updated the Electoral Commission of Queensland with my correct details when my circumstances changed. I am currently enrolled at my permanent address and I have complied with the requirements of the Electoral Commission of Queensland at all times.”<\/p>\n

Opposition calls on premier to act<\/p>\n

Deputy opposition leader Cameron Dick has called for Mr Mander to be stood down.<\/p>\n

“Today we call on the premier to hold Tim Mander to the same standard that he demands from everyone else,” Mr Dick said.<\/p>\n

“If the premier doesn’t stand Tim Mander down today, then he has given up on governing with integrity for Queenslanders.”<\/p>\n
