May is officially going to the pooches in our lives, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The City of Charles Sturt has its four-legged residents in mind this month, as their beloved Doggy Day returns this May for a month-long celebration packed with activities, workshops and community events.

Running from May 1st to May 31st, the popular annual celebration features 18 free and affordable events across Adelaide’s western suburbs, giving local dog owners plenty of opportunities to socialise and learn new tricks, with plenty of fun opportunities for dogs as well.

“The Doggy Day in May events are about more than just our love for dogs, they are about making sure our community has access to practical support, whether that’s training, health advice, or guidance around behaviour,” shared Mayor of City of Charles Sturt, Angela Evans.

“At times, councils can be seen as regulators, but opportunities like this allow us to connect in a more positive, proactive way by listening to our community, sharing knowledge, and giving something back. Ultimately, it’s about helping everyone feel confident and responsible, so we can all enjoy our shared spaces respectfully and safely.”

The festivities kick off with a relaxed Community Dog Walk led by the Pets of Charles Sturt team, on May 1st. Then, throughout the month, events like free Puppy Playgroups for little ones under six months, and a handy Ask a Dog Trainer session where owners can get expert advice on everything from barking to behavioural quirks, are all sure to be favourites.

There are also lots of informative seminars covering topics like canine communication, managing reactivity, preparing for a new puppy, pet first aid, and even how to introduce your dog to a new baby. Because while dogs may be naturally adorable, they don’t exactly come with an instruction manual.

For the dogs that are more like social butterflies, Dog Park Etiquette sessions at local favourites like Semapaw Park and Doggie Land will help make sure everyone plays nicely, while the PAWsitive Community Catch Up with Safe Pets Safe Families wraps up the month on a very heartwarming note.

While Doggy Day is all about fun, the initiative also promotes responsible pet ownership, safe community behaviour, and the wellbeing of dogs and their humans.

It’s all about helping owners better understand training, behaviour and socialisation, while highlighting the important role Council plays in supporting local pets and their families.

Here’s a handful of standout events you’ll want to add to your calendar!

Most of these events are completely free, but a few selected seminars are available for a small fee. As you’d expect, spots are limited, and bookings are essential, so it’s worth getting in quickly before your preferred sessions fill up.

So if you love spending time with your pup or want to learn more about what makes them tick, and you’re a resident of Charles Sturt, this is something you don’t want to miss.

For more information and the full schedule, click here.

Share Tweet Share Share Email Attention dog lovers!
