{"id":17189,"date":"2026-05-23T20:54:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T20:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/17189\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T20:54:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T20:54:16","slug":"as-jarrod-bleijie-goes-on-the-attack-does-david-crisafulli-have-oversight-of-his-deputy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/17189\/","title":{"rendered":"As Jarrod Bleijie goes on the attack, does David Crisafulli have oversight of his deputy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">You may have missed it this week amid the shenanigans involving benched Olympics Minister Tim Mander, but the deputy premier of Queensland made a &#8220;Dick&#8221; joke about his political opponent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Yes, you read that right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">This wasn&#8217;t an episode of Veep or The Thick of It.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It was just another Jarrod Bleijie press conference, where he deployed burns at his political opponents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Let&#8217;s call them Mr Bleijie&#8217;s burns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The second in charge in the Crisafulli LNP government gave his frank assessment of the most senior MPs within Labor&#8217;s ranks.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Bleijie described Labor leader Steven Miles as &#8220;Miles, the muppet&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">For shadow treasurer Shannon Fentiman, Mr Bleijie called her &#8220;Fentiman, the failure&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Frontbencher Grace Grace was labelled &#8220;Grace, disgrace&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Shadow attorney-general Meaghan Scanlon was dubbed &#8220;Scanlon, the scammer&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">And then when it came to deputy Labor leader Cameron Dick, Mr Bleijie said: &#8220;Dick, the \u2026 well, it speaks for itself, doesn&#8217;t it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Get it? (AAP: Darren England\u00a0)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He and Child Safety Minister Amanda Camm were also forced to reveal they were in a &#8220;personal relationship&#8221; while in opposition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They say they were together, then they weren&#8217;t together, and then they got back together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-06\/qld-tim-mander-amanda-camm-politics\/106649200\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ministers insist &#8216;no conflict of interest&#8217; before declaring relationship<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Queensland ministers Tim Mander and Amanda Camm have fielded questions about their relationship and timeline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They insist they <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-06\/qld-tim-mander-amanda-camm-politics\/106649200\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106649200\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declared their relationship at the appropriate time,<\/a> which is required under the ministerial code of conduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Labor has prosecuted the issue, and prosecuted it hard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">And in doing so, arguably opened a Pandora&#8217;s box about the personal lives of our politicians that will be hard to close.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a bid to hit back at Labor, Mr Bleijie <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-12\/bleijie-accuses-labor-mps-of-secret-relationship\/106670298\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106670298\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">used parliamentary privilege to circulate unfounded rumours<\/a> of an &#8220;alleged relationship&#8221; between two Labor MPs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Both MPs strenuously denied Mr Bleijie&#8217;s claim \u2014 and by saying it in parliament, the deputy premier can avoid any legal repercussions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He did this during a fired-up question time performance where he also threatened to lift the lid on the personal lives of five other Labor MPs.<\/p>\n<p>A strange juxtaposition<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But not long after this, in response to a question from Mr Miles about the Mander\/Camm saga, the premier declared how &#8220;important&#8221; it was for the government and parliament to concentrate on issues important to Queenslanders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It was a strange juxtaposition to Mr Crisafulli&#8217;s deputy, who only minutes earlier was rattling off a list of MPs he was preparing to attack \u2014 and had raised unfounded rumours of a relationship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It looked like a premier who said one thing, and a deputy premier who did something else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">To be fair to Mr Bleijie, he&#8217;s been subject to name-calling in the past from the Labor benches.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk speaking at COAG meeting\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au\/0d65e4cb5360fa3ec72065ab7e62d36d?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&amp;cropH=1997&amp;cropW=3000&amp;xPos=0&amp;yPos=0&amp;width=862&amp;height=575\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">In 2017, then-premier Annastacia Palaszczuk called Jarrod Bleijie a &#8216;dancing queen&#8217;.
