{"id":1806,"date":"2026-04-30T02:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/1806\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T02:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:58:08","slug":"lendlease-moves-ahead-with-1800-home-brisbane-games-village-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/1806\/","title":{"rendered":"Lendlease Moves Ahead with 1800-Home Brisbane Games Village Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Development heavy-hitter Lendlease says it is moving forward with its plans for 1800 homes as part of the athletes\u2019 village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal centres on the transformation of the Brisbane Showgrounds precinct into a major residential and mixed-use community after the Games.<\/p>\n<p>The village will be home to around 10,000 athletes and officials during the event and then be converted into permanent housing.<\/p>\n<p>The developer said the homes would be taken to market as build-to-rent or build-to-sell after the Games.<\/p>\n<p>The development is part of a broader urban renewal effort, with the showgrounds site earmarked as a key legacy precinct delivering long-term housing supply.<\/p>\n<p>Lendlease said Birmingham-based architects Howells, who worked with on the London Olympics, would design the developer\u2019s project on the RNA Showgrounds site, in conjunction with Australian firms Woods Bagot, Cottee Parker, DBI and Plus Studio.<\/p>\n<p>The developer said BVN was guiding a multidisciplinary masterplanning team to steer the future of the Brisbane Showgrounds Precinct.<\/p>\n<p>The project is slated as the final collaboration between landowner RNA and Lendlease for the 22ha site.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration has delivered apartment towers and a timber-built 25 office tower on the site on the northern edge of the CBD.<\/p>\n<p>The scale of the project makes it one of the most significant housing pipelines linked to the Games.<\/p>\n<p>The developer told media this was \u201can important step forward for the main athletes\u2019 village which will comprise approximately 1800 apartments to house the world\u2019s best athletes and convert to permanent housing after 2032, delivering a lasting legacy long after the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether with new event infrastructure and public spaces, this further strengthens the Brisbane Showground\u2019s role as a vibrant inner-city community and major entertainment destination,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Mid_article_resizes__12_.jpg\" alt=\"A concept rendering of the Games village to be created at the RNA Showgrounds at Bowen Hills.\"\/>\u25b2 A concept rendering of the Games village to be created at the RNA Showgrounds at Bowen Hills.<\/p>\n<p>While a builder has not been appointed, the chairman of Hutchinson Builders, Queensland\u2019s largest contractor, told media he was bidding for the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cIt suits Hutchies, it\u2019s not popular work and \u2026 a lot of commercial builders say no. High-rise resi is the least loved job.
