Work to upgrade Parramatta Fire Station has been completed as construction now begins on the brand new Wentworthville fire station to enhance fire services in western Sydney\u2019s growing heart. <\/p>\n

The Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib, MP for Parramatta Donna Davis and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell have unveiled the expanded Parramatta Fire Station.<\/p>\n

The upgraded station includes enhanced training facilities and improved equipment storage to cater for a larger firefighting force. Work includes new rest areas, new amenities and locker rooms for male and female firefighters, training facilities, personal Protection Clothing (PPC) storage, new dining facilities, a breathing apparatus\/decontamination room and additional Commander\u2019s office<\/p>\n

The expansion also allows fire crews from the neighbouring Wentworthville Fire Station to work from Parramatta as their nearby base is rebuilt to limit disruption. Demolition of the old Wentworthville station has been completed and construction is now underway.<\/p>\n

The new Wentworthville station will feature:<\/p>\n


\nTwo new engine bays
\nPrivate amenities for male and female firefighters
\nMeasures to reduce the spread of fire contaminants
\nSeparate working areas
\nA larger rest area
\nEnhanced training facilities
\nAdditional equipment space <\/p>\n

Known as the Parramatta Precinct Project, the $9.7 million development is part of a wider NSW Government investment into FRNSW stations and fleet across NSW.<\/p>\n

The Wentworthville station has also been assigned a new Class 3 rescue pumper, valued at $1.3 million, which has begun fire-fighting operations.<\/p>\n

Once completed, the specialist rescue station will provide fire protection to a community that includes more than 20 schools, two large hospitals, six nursing homes, and major road and rail routes within the western Sydney growth corridor.<\/p>\n

The construction of the Wentworthville station is due for completion next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know the population of the Greater Parramatta Area is set to increase by 400,000 people over the next 20 years, so it stands to reason its two busiest fire stations are enhanced.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n“We are investing in the future of western Sydney, and as Parramatta rapidly evolves we are delivering services to match it. By upgrading Parramatta station we are future-proofing fire-fighting services and ensuring the station can serve the fast changing needs of Parramatta when it comes to fighting fires and keeping our community safe.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe old Wentworthville Fire Station, built on the corner of Garfield and Pritchard Streets in 1935 and renovated in 1997, was too small and no longer met FRNSW\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crew of 22 has responded to almost 1250 calls on average a year over the past five years and it has been in urgent need of a modern base.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe original building was a third the size of other stations and didn\u2019t have the facilities required of a modern fire station. The new station will have improved privacy provisions for male and female firefighters and measures to prevent contaminants being brought into the station from fire scenes.<\/p>\n
