Adelaide Crows Captain Jordan Dawson will not play in the Showdown match on Friday following the sudden loss of his brother.<\/p>\n

Coach Matthew Nicks confirmed on Thursday that Dawson attended his brother’s funeral at Robe on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“It’s as you can imagine, a big week for the family and the community of Robe, yesterday was a really special day,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The entire community came together and just bonded and they were there for the family.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully for Jordan and his family it allows them to then work on what’s next.”<\/p>\n

The 59th Showdown will kick off at Adelaide Oval tomorrow night at 7.40pm (ACDT).<\/p>\n

When asked how Dawson was doing, Nicks said he was “as well as he can be” and that the club will give “Jordan what Jordan needs”.<\/p>\n

“We don’t know if he’ll come to the game tomorrow night,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We’ll just give him whatever time he needs.<\/p>\n

“I’m pretty sure he’ll be keen to get back in as soon as he can.”<\/p>\n

This comes after Dawson broke down in tears and shared hugs with Brisbane players after playing on Sunday \u2014 in his first match since his brother’s death.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mental health has been a hot topic in the AFL community this past month with Fremantle Dockers’ player Nathan O’Driscoll most recently sharing his mental health struggles in a post to social media.<\/a><\/p>\n
