moisture feeds coastal rain while Perth sees lingering falls and southern states warm under high pressure

Conditions will remain mixed across the country on Wednesday, with a slow-moving system continuing to draw in tropical moisture before gradually clearing southwards.

Sky News Weather Meteorologist Tamsin Green said the low-pressure system offshore had been dragging in moisture and rainfall, with lingering showers expected in the morning before easing later in the day.

Across the country, unseasonable warmth is building through the south, while showers persist on either side – most notably along the east coast due to a trough lingering offshore.

Rain will continue to impact parts of Western Australia over the next 24 hours, with some areas around Perth likely to see falls between 20mm and 30mm, particularly to the north and east of the city.

However, showers and storms are expected to clear across southern parts of the state as the system moves east.

Perth will see a brief warm-up to 24 degrees before cooler conditions return over the rest of the week.

In Queensland, showers are expected to extend along much of the coastline, with heavier falls possible further north.

“We can see the chance of those showers wrapping along the entirety of the east coast for Queensland, possibly a little bit heavier further north towards the Cassowary coast and also more widespread across the south,” Green said.

Brisbane is forecast to reach a high of 26 degrees, with a low of 16, and showers are expected to continue throughout the day.

Showers will also affect the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, while inland areas should remain mostly fine and settled.

In New South Wales, coastal showers will extend along the north coast, while inland regions may see early morning fog followed by sunshine.

Temperatures will start low, with Orange forecast to drop to around two degrees before warming up throughout the day.

“Around or a little bit below average for the time of year across those inland areas, looking at temperatures in the low to mid-20s for many,” Green said.

<img decoding="async" class="poster-img" summer’s deadly bushfires" fetchpriority="high"/>

Sydney is expected to reach a top of 24 degrees with a low of 13, while locals face only a slight chance of showers as conditions remain largely dry under a high pressure system.

The Australian Capital Territory will see mostly dry conditions, with Canberra forecast to reach 23 degrees after a chilly start.

“Sunshine will be a feature, though, before the chance of showers sets in through the weekend and into the early part of next week,” Green said.

Victorians will begin Wednesday with patchy fog, particularly in the south, before partly cloudy conditions persist through the day with more sunshine developing further north.

Temperatures will reach the low to mid-20s for many areas, with Melbourne forecast to reach a maximum of 23 degrees with a low of 13.

“Melbourne, we’re looking a good deal of fine weather over the few days as well, thanks to high pressure overhead and those northerly winds feeding in much warmer weather,” Green said.

South Australia will see temperatures climb significantly, reaching the high 20s or even low 30s across parts of the state on Wednesday.

Adelaide is forecast to reach 28 degrees with a low of 15.

Elsewhere, Tasmania will remain mostly fine and settled under high pressure, with Hobart forecast to reach 17 degrees and a low of eight.

While a few showers may skim the state’s south and west, most areas will see sunshine despite cooler conditions.

Further north, the Northern Territory will remain mostly dry, with only isolated light showers possible across the northeast of the Top End and in the Tiwi Islands.

Sunshine is expected to dominate across much of the tropical north.

Conditions will remain mixed across the country on Wednesday,
