<\/p>\nThe parents of two children killed in a house fire in the foothills of the NSW Blue Mountains have released a statement detailing their “devastating loss”.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to the blaze at Lieutenant Bowen Road at Bowen Mountain on Monday at 2am, where a house was extensively damaged by fire.<\/p>\n
The family and NSW Ambulance said the father and three children were able to escape the house, but two other children died in the fire.<\/p>\n
Their bodies were found at the scene on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
Ten-year-old Myla Summer-Lea\u00a0Hughes\u00a0and three-year-old River William\u00a0Higgins were remembered by loved ones as “precious” and “deeply loved”.<\/p>\n

A statement from parents Skye Hughes and David Higgins said their “family’s world has been forever changed”.<\/p>\n
“This tragedy has forever changed our family, but the extraordinary support of our community has reminded us that we do not stand alone,” they said.<\/p>\n
“Your kindness has carried us through our darkest hours, and we are profoundly grateful for every act of support.”<\/p>\n
The parents expressed their gratitude to first responders for their “tireless efforts”, hospital staff for their “exceptional care”, family, friends and the wider Hawkesbury community.<\/p>\n
The family had been due to relocate to Queensland for a “new life together in their new home”, with Ms Hughes and another of their children already interstate when the blaze began, the statement read.<\/p>\n
“This heartbreaking reality makes this unimaginable loss even more devastating for all who loved them,” they said.<\/p>\n
Investigations were continuing into the cause of the fire, with police saying it was not believed to be suspicious.<\/p>\n
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, the siblings and with the broader community,” Hawkesbury Police Area Command’s Superintendent Nadine Roberts said on Monday.<\/p>\n
