{"id":19688,"date":"2026-05-27T22:46:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/19688\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T22:46:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:46:11","slug":"man-charged-with-murder-after-multiple-alleged-assaults-in-childers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/19688\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged with murder after multiple alleged assaults in Childers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly attacking several people at Childers, south of Bundaberg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police allege one of the people, a 78-year-old North Isis man, was beaten with a metal pole and died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On Wednesday at 2:38pm, the Bundaberg West man is alleged to have driven on Whitebridge Road, North Isis, where he exited his car and punched the man, a pedestrian, in the head before hitting him with a metal pole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Men in blue uniforms standing on a road.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/638a037584e2f55cdc4fdf073b05b13b.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Police have declared three crime scenes in Childers, 300 km north of Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A short time earlier, about 2:30pm, police allege the man was driving a Subaru Liberty on North Street, Childers, when he allegedly reversed into a Mitsubishi Pajero, deliberately crashing the cars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police say the Mitsubishi driver, a 65-year-old Howard man, exited his car before the Subaru driver allegedly reversed into him, got out of the car, then allegedly punched him several times before leaving the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police allege the man also drove to Crescent Street at the intersection of Lord Street in Childers and assaulted a 66-year-old man.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The man was restrained by members of the public and arrested by officers a short time later, police say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Earlier on Wednesday, about 1:45 pm, police also allege the man was involved in another crash on the Bruce Highway at Glenorchy, about 70km south of Childers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Childers crime scene 3\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/f61e58065afcc58cafe863a7d983633c.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Police said a 78-year-old man died from an alleged assault in Childers, 300km north of Brisbane.
