A renewed search for missing four-year-old boy Gus Lamont has failed to uncover additional evidence.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters for the first time at Oak Park Station, near Yunta, the head of SA Police’s Major Crime Division, Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, said one of Gus’s grandparents remained a suspect in the police investigation into the boy’s disappearance.<\/p>\n

Gus’s grandparents, Josie and Shannon Murray, have previously released a statement saying the family had “cooperated fully with the investigation and want nothing more than to find Gus and reunite him with his mum and dad”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

SA Police have identified more than 500 people who were “in and around” Oak Park Station when Gus was reported missing on September 27.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Taskforce members have been meticulously working through the list of those people and making individual contact with every one of those people,” Detective Superintendent Fielke said.<\/p>\n

But he said there was still “no evidence to suggest that Gus has been abducted”.<\/p>\n

“All of the people that we have contacted so far have been discounted as being involved in any way in Gus’s disappearance,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There aren’t many people left on that list.”<\/p>\n

Police said forensic examination of items seized from the property in January, which included a vehicle, a motorbike and electronic devices<\/a>, had also failed to yield further clues.<\/p>\n

“No evidence has been located as a result of that testing that provides any further lines of enquiry that might assist us,” Detective Superintendent Fielke said.<\/p>\n

“One of the grandparents of Gus remains a suspect in this investigation, although at this time I’m not prepared to elaborate any further in relation to that person.<\/p>\n

“At this time, no other suspects or persons of interest have been identified in this investigation.”\"An<\/p>\n

Seventeen SA Police members were involved in the latest search on Oak Park Station \u2014 the 11th search since Gus went missing.<\/p>\n

Police have received hundreds of phone calls, emails and letters from the public in the intervening eight months.<\/p>\n

They said more than 830 separate pieces of information had been forthcoming.<\/p>\n

They included more than 500 calls to Crime Stoppers, a further 200 calls directly to police and more than 60 emails and letters, which Detective Superintendent Fielke said were “all being followed up” on.<\/p>\n

Detective Superintendent Fielke said police used the opportunity of recent rainfall to search more than 30 kilometres of waterways and creek beds, as well as bores and wells.<\/p>\n

“We’ve concentrated on the waterways because that’s where most of the weather event activity has occurred,” he said.<\/p>\n

“That gave us an opportunity to come back, to see if anything has been unearthed, anything has been shifted, anything has been altered that allows us to have a look.”<\/p>\n

While those efforts uncovered no evidence, further aerial searches will be conducted to encompass an area up to 15 kilometres from the homestead.<\/p>\n

Police said AI technology would be used to analyse the footage, and that if anything of interest were detected, they would again return to the property.<\/p>\n

“Task Force Horizon members are in constant contact with Gus’s parents. They regularly speak and they are regularly provided with updates,” Detective Superintendent Fielke said.<\/p>\n

“They’re still struggling as you can imagine. They are riding a pretty emotional rollercoaster.”\"Outback<\/p>\n

While police vowed they “won’t give up”, they said it was “disappointing” that nothing further had been found.<\/p>\n

“The longer this goes on, the closer we get to not finding him, and I think we all need to be aware of that,” Detective Superintendent Fielke said.<\/p>\n
