{"id":20990,"date":"2026-05-29T17:50:38","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/20990\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T17:50:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:50:38","slug":"major-emergency-response-to-building-fire-in-sydney-cbd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/20990\/","title":{"rendered":"Major emergency response to building fire in Sydney CBD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Massive numbers of police and fire and rescue workers have converged on an office building in Sydney\u2019s inner-city after a fire broke out.<\/p>\n<p>Several streets have been blocked off by NSW Police and more than a dozen firetrucks remain on the scene of a fire in an office building on Kippax St in Surry Hills on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/79b89f8b94c98c3ee3caca049604c98a\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Major police and fire operation unfolds in Surry Hills\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Firefighters were seen trying to force their way through the front door of the building, which hosts a number of office suites.<\/p>\n<p>A cherry picker was sent up shortly after fire crews arrived and stayed up for the majority of the operation.<\/p>\n<p>There was a strong smell of electrical burning in the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman said they were called to the fire at the top of the nine-storey building at about 6.10am.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirefighters are gaining access to the building and attempting to extinguish and control that fire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve responded with 15 fire trucks to that location and police and ambulance are also assisting. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no reports of injuries \u2013 we don\u2019t believe there\u2019s any risk to life at this time \u2026 we\u2019re still concerned for the occupants of the building, still working to ensure their safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"author-content_image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/journalists\/jack-nivison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"author-content_image_img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nivison_jack.png\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" alt=\"Jack Nivison\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"g_font-body-s author-content_bio\">Jack Nivison is a reporter for NewsLocal, working mainly in the Campbelltown\/Camden area for the Macarthur Chronicle.
