Until now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Full Circle Theatre Company launched last night at Immersive Light and Art, on Light Square, announcing it would produce its first show Catch Me If You Can at Futures Theatre in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Led by artistic director Jo Casson, she says Full Circle is Adelaide&#8217;s first professional musical theatre company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We have so much talent in South Australia that it&#8217;s a bit outrageous,&#8221; she told <a class=\"Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/listen\/programs\/adelaide-afternoons\" data-component=\"Link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">891 ABC Adelaide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;For professional artists to work they so often have to move to the eastern states, so it will be amazing to have some opportunities for those professional artists to work in their hometown.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-03-10\/adelaide-fringe-high-stakes-new-artists-snout-the-rock-opera\/106415588\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The high stakes of premiering new works at the Adelaide Fringe<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Forget getting any rest, actually, forget about a full night&#8217;s sleep at all, because once you pass the point of no return in the production of a new show, the rollercoaster begins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Adelaide has a long list of amateur and semi-professional musical theatre groups creating both well-known and original shows, but they often operate on very tight budgets and casts and crews have day jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Full Circle Theatre Company is supported by patron Pamela Wall AO, a well known philanthropist in Adelaide and former nurse and businesswoman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Casson wants to give more Adelaide artists opportunity to work professionally at home without having to travel to Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve got some incredible amateur theatre companies and some fabulous youth companies in Adelaide and then, at the other end of the spectrum, is the fabulous, national touring shows that come to Adelaide,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There has never been something in the middle so we kind of sit in a niche market where we&#8217;re a local professional, not-for-profit company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Working to catch recognition\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She said Full Circle would spend its first 18 months producing three existing works that people &#8220;recognised&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Elderly lady in front of a pink backdrop\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1cfe6fdaf9be352e0ad964a74315e0d4.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Dr Pamela Wall AO is a well known philanthropist in Adelaide and patron of the arts. (Facebook: Carrick Hill)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Catch Me If You Can is based on the 2002 Hollywood film of the same name starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It debuted on Broadway in 2011 with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Casson said achieving recognition for Full Circle through existing works would enable it to support a wider range of material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Getting a new work published, and seen, is a genuine challenge anywhere in the world,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Unless you&#8217;ve got massive funding behind you and your name&#8217;s Lin-Manual Miranda [Hamilton composer] it&#8217;s pretty tough to get new work up and new work funded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I just directed Amity Dry&#8217;s musical The Perfect Life which is actually an incredible, unknown show by a South Australian composer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;That&#8217;s a pretty tough sell in South Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;But we&#8217;re trying to support all of that as well and definitely looking to find ways to build exposure for local writers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ambassadors onboard<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Full Circle also has three official ambassadors to help promote its goals.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woman chin in her hands\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/15e6da1b1b41eb52af33b7da9bf6981e.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Vocalist and actress Rachael Beck is currently touring with Footloose. (Instagram: Fullcircle_theatre)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They include writer, critic, theatre director and radio presenter Peter Goers; vocalist and arts advocate Libby O&#8217;Donovan; and leading performer and educator Rachael Beck, with more likely to be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The idea of the ambassador program is to connect with renowned local and national industry people who can support us,&#8221; Casson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s third-party endorsement, right? (ABC Adelaide)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Patron Dr Pamela Wall said she adored musical theatre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Jo and her team are doing such a wonderful thing for our talented young artists, but I particularly like their commitment to present musical theatre to new audiences who might not have experienced the spectacle before,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Growing local audiences<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Casson said musical theatre in SA drew just 9 per cent of the state&#8217;s overall live entertainment audiences compared to up to 17pc in other states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s not because South Australians aren&#8217;t fans of musical theatre.
