{"id":2489,"date":"2026-05-01T00:54:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/2489\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T00:54:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:54:06","slug":"solis-orbits-copper-and-lithium-exploration-riu-sydney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/2489\/","title":{"rendered":"Solis orbits copper and lithium exploration: RIU Sydney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/solisminerals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Solis Minerals<\/a> (ASX:SLM) will make its 2026 priorities clear at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riusydneyresourcesroundup.com.au\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RIU Sydney Resources Round-Up<\/a>, CEO Mitch Thomas tells Mining.com.au ahead of the conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While reconnecting with existing shareholders and meeting new investors, Solis will explain its plan to conclude the year, including exploration and potential discovery across the company\u2019s copper and lithium targets.<\/p>\n<p>Solis\u2019 main targets are at its Cinto and Cucho copper projects in Peru, along with the company\u2019s lithium exploration portfolio in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRIU is a key event on the calendar \u2014 it has very high-quality attendees, companies, and supporting announcements in the lead-up,\u201d Thomas says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlending the West Australian-based companies with east coast investors creates a very productive environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Held at the Hyatt Regency Sydney from 5\u20137 May 2026, the RIU Sydney Resources Round-Up acts as a forum for corporate mining investors.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas will be presenting on behalf of Solis at the conference on Wednesday 6 May at 4.10pm AEST.<\/p>\n<p>He describes the event as a \u201cvery efficient way\u201d to get an idea of emerging companies and good ideas, with increased access to management and investors.<\/p>\n<p>Solis will hold a number of meetings and lunches throughout the week, including its investor lunch in Melbourne to end the event week.<\/p>\n<p>South American assets<\/p>\n<p>Solis recently expanded its exploration pipeline with the acquisition of the Brazil Lithium Project in Minas Gerais, as <a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com.au\/solis-acquires-brazil-asset-from-rio-tinto-subsidiary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> by Mining.com.au.<\/p>\n<p>The company acquired the asset for a total purchase price of US$500,000 ($694,161.4) from mining giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riotinto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Rio Tinto<\/a>\u2019s (ASX:RIO) subsidiary, Desenvolvimentos Minerais.<\/p>\n<p>The consideration will be paid on the signing of binding agreements, with Rio Tinto retaining a 1.75% net smelter return royalty for the project area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Solis will conduct its due diligence on the project over a 14-day period, with legal ownership of concessions to be transferred upon completion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over in Peru, the company has two assets it is focused on this year.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the southern Peruvian Copper Belt, the Cinto Copper Project comprises seven tenements across 3,200 hectares and is located 15km southeast of the Toquepala Mine.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Cucho Copper Project is situated 183km north-northwest of Lima, located in low-relief desert terrain.<\/p>\n<p>Solis describes Cucho as a \u201ccompelling exploration and development opportunity\u201d, which has historical datasets, drill-defined copper mineralisation from surface, and geological indicators of a \u2018district-scale\u2019 mineralised system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thomas expected the mining sector to perform \u201cvery well\u201d for the remainder of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been a deficit of exploration spend on energy transition metals, and that bodes well for forward-looking copper and lithium prices,\u201d Thomas explains.<\/p>\n<p>Trading Economics <a href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/commodities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reports<\/a> copper at US$5.97 per pound as of today (1 May), representing a 30.29% increase year over year.
