Tributes have flowed for one of the world\u2019s most respected aviation journalists, Geoffrey Thomas, following his death at age 74.<\/p>\n
Mr Thomas died in Perth on Tuesday surrounded by loved ones after a short illness.<\/p>\n
The award-winning journalist was one of the world\u2019s most respected voices in aviation following a five decade career and fearless reporting on the industry.<\/p>\n
The recipient of 47 international awards, who was editor-in-chief at AirlineRatings.com and 42kft.com, provided his expertise to media across Australia and around the globe, and authored many books.<\/p>\n
A Perth Observatory spokesman said Mr Thomas was one of the most recognisable voices in aviation journalism who reported on everything from airline announcements, new aircraft, safety issues or breaking global news.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeoffrey was often the first person journalists, broadcasters, industry leaders, and aviation enthusiasts turned to for expert insight,\u201d a spokesman said in a post.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe built a reputation for explaining complex aviation topics in a way that everyone could understand. <\/p>\n
\u201cHis knowledge of the industry was extraordinary, but it was his passion for aviation that truly set him apart. Geoffrey could speak with equal enthusiasm about the latest airliner technology, airline history, or the future of flight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Luxury Escapes Global PR & Communications general manager Amanda Bolger paid tribute to Mr Thomas on social media, saying he was an icon to many in the aviation industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cA true gentleman, generous in sharing his wisdom, a charming, entertaining global travel buddy, always up for a laugh, and adventure, usually involving aeroplanes, sometimes celebrities but he was always more interested in the aircraft,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will never forget his kindness when I fronted up to National Aviation Press Club events totally intimidated and out of my depth and he always made sure I had someone to sit with. But that was GT, always kind.\u201d <\/p>\n
