Adelaide’s northeast, but two businesses would need to be demolished.

Grill’d has lodged plans with Port Adelaide Enfield Council to build a new restaurant on the corner of North East Rd and Elm St at Hampstead Gardens.

Spanning 261 sqm, the restaurant would feature an indoor dining area with 73 seats and a further 38-seat outdoor alfresco area.

The two-lane drive-through would have two waiting bays and enough space for up to 12 queued vehicles – intending to reduce the possibility of traffic backing up on to the main road.

All existing buildings and fixtures on the 2320 sqm site would be removed, including two commercial companies – an outdoor car wash business and a trailer hire business, according to planning documents.

There would also be 23 carparking spaces and four bike spaces.

Unlike the other Grill’d restaurants across Adelaide, the new restaurant would operate every day, around the clock.

Planning documents stated that nearby residential properties will not be affected by noise levels if the restaurant operates 24/7.

“During the hours, it is more likely for patrons to frequent the drive-through, utilising the fast service of the operator to enter and exit the site in a timely manner,” planning documents read.

“The siting of the development ensures that patrons within the alfresco area are unlikely to generate a level of noise perceivable from the residential abuttals.

“Grill’d do not operate like a ‘bar’ or ‘hotel’ in which unruly behaviour is common, rather operating as a family-friendly restaurant whereby patron behaviour is much more low maintenance.”

If approved, the new restaurant would become the sixth Grill’d restaurant in Adelaide, adding to the list of venues at Marion, Norwood, Rundle St, Tea Tree Plaza and Unley.

Public consulation closes on June 19.

A popular ‘healthy’ burger chain is grilling up plans to open its first 24/7
