(AAP: Dean Lewins)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The NSW system of optional preferential voting risks splintering right-leaning voters into different camps and robbing the Coalition of preferences it would otherwise expect if voters had to number every box on the ballot paper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Even still, the premier doesn&#8217;t think One Nation leader Pauline Hanson&#8217;s presence in the upcoming election campaign will do him any favours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I think this is a genuine threat to us in the Labor Party,&#8221; he told Stateline.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s real. It&#8217;s a clear movement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Hanson&#8217;s party undoubtedly has the potential to take a big swag of votes from Labor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-24\/one-nation-western-sydney-nsw-state-election-chances\/106711360\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why this Labor voter is switching to One Nation<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The next opportunity to test support for One Nation in Western Sydney will be the state election on March 13, 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In the 2023 election, One Nation came second in the seat of Cessnock, winning 15 per cent of the primary vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It captured 14 per cent in the Labor-held seat of Camden and 8 per cent in Penrith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They&#8217;re going to have a big crack at this election campaign,&#8221; Mr Minns said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;And it&#8217;s going to be unusual, because we&#8217;ve not had effectively a three-corner contest before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;But, we&#8217;re ready for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Immigration no &#8216;excuse&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Central to One Nation&#8217;s platform is a demand to dramatically cut immigration, capping visas at 130,000 per year to ease pressure on housing and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The premier said there should not be a &#8220;formal link&#8221; between immigration and housing supply, but it should be &#8220;part of the consideration&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t want the immigration debate to obscure the state government&#8217;s responsibility to get on with the job of building houses,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There&#8217;s been too many excuses and not enough homes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He&#8217;s right about that.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"nsw mrem ier chris  minns with other m inisters and oificials wearing hard hats and high viz walking through a construction site\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/5d0c94711dd716850e26ca4560e55aea.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The premier says there has been &#8220;too many excuses and not enough homes&#8221; being built in the state. (ABC News: Nick Dole)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">While the opposition has vowed to build at least one new metro, location and funding to be confirmed, the premier has a far more modest offering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Our vision is we want to live in a state where people can afford to buy a home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Where we can build life-changing infrastructure without selling off assets, and we can balance the budget without putting a wages cap in place that smashes hundreds of thousands of hard-working men and women in New South Wales.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">As nice as that may sound, it&#8217;s remarkably similar to the vision he outlined for his first term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">When asked whether voters wanted a &#8220;steady as she goes&#8221; government, he said he had &#8220;no idea&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We&#8217;ll find out in March next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No early exit<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Earlier this year, the premier caused concern at Labor head office \u2014 and delight at Liberal HQ \u2014 when he publicly declared he wouldn&#8217;t be premier in 2032.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Assuming he wins in March, that would mean he either planned to step down during the next term, or just months into his third term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Or, he didn&#8217;t think he could win two more elections.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Chris Minns wearing a dark suit and tie.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/aa104b8fa9696d6bd69eba1e23fe26a8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The premier stresses that while he hopes to get re-elected, it&#8217;s not in his power.
