{"id":26871,"date":"2026-06-08T06:47:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T06:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/26871\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T06:47:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T06:47:12","slug":"wa-opposition-leader-basil-zempilas-has-open-mind-about-working-with-one-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/26871\/","title":{"rendered":"WA Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas has &#8216;open mind&#8217; about working with One Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Pauline Hanson&#8217;s One Nation deserves &#8220;respect&#8221;, according to Western Australia&#8217;s Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas, who says he is open to finding a way of working with the minor party as support for it grows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a Newspoll published by The Australian today, which surveyed 1,240 voters across the country, One Nation received 31 per cent of the primary vote, ahead of Labor (30 per cent) and the Coalition (18 per cent) for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In one of his first major speeches to the business community as leader of the WA Liberals, Mr Zempilas said ignoring One Nation &#8220;would be to ignore the will of the people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are a rising political movement, and because of that, One Nation deserve respect,&#8221;  he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;And if their support holds, inevitably it will be people in my position&#8217;s job to find a way to work with, or alongside, One Nation. (ABC News: Keane Bourke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He also warned Labor it should be concerned about the party&#8217;s popularity, adding that it was his duty to give voters as many options as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They are rising. External shocks that have really, I think, really shocked the system.
