{"id":28074,"date":"2026-06-09T23:08:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/28074\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T23:08:36","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:08:36","slug":"zac-swettenham-son-of-barry-michael-charged-with-footscray-murder-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/28074\/","title":{"rendered":"Zac Swettenham, son of Barry Michael, charged with Footscray murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The son of a boxing champion charged with the murder of another man in Melbourne\u2019s inner west has psychosis, schizophrenia and akathisia, a court has been told.<\/p>\n<p>Zac Swettenham, 37, the son of Australian boxing legend Barry Michael, appeared via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates\u2019 Court on Tuesday afternoon after he was charged with killing a 25-year-old man in Footscray on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The man was found with serious injuries behind the Courthouse Hotel on Nicholson St, near Irvine St, about 7.45pm on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>Emergency services tried to treat the South Yarra man but he died at the scene. <\/p>\n<p>Wearing white prison clothes and covering his legs with a white blanket, Mr Swettenham appeared relaxed but tired.<\/p>\n<p>Akathisia is a \u201csubjective and very distressing feeling of restlessness\u201d and can be caused by antipsychosis medication, according to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>He will appear in court again on October 13. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Swettenham was arrested about 8.30pm on Monday at Yarraville railway station. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this stage, detectives believe the parties were known to each other,\u201d a police statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sweetenham was previously sentenced to three years and six months in jail for assaulting a man in his home with a baseball bat and robbing him in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sweetenham\u2019s father held the IBF super featherweight world championship from 1985-1987.
