This month, the company broke ground on an $80-million food manufacturing plant at Edinburgh in Adelaide\u2019s north and opened a new $11-million fish market in the inner-western suburb of Thebarton.<\/p>\n
South Australian company Sagle Constructions is lead contractor for the Edinburgh project. Over the next two years, the plant will replace Safcol\u2019s existing factory at Elizabeth.<\/p>\n
Safcol chief executive Andrew Mitchell said the new plant would reduce energy costs and increase logistical efficiencies.<\/p>\n
The company produces seafood, soups, canned vegetables and 60 per cent of Australia\u2019s wet baby food.<\/p>\n

The current Elizabeth plant houses Safcol\u2019s national warehousing and import business.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis investment is about building a manufacturing footprint that is fit for the future while continuing to support Australian producers, local supply chains and South Australian jobs,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n
The start of work on the plant coincides with the opening of Safcol\u2019s new fish market at 36 West Thebarton Road.<\/p>\n
The market has modern auction facilities, advanced digital systems, new refrigeration infrastructure and forklifts and improved parking.<\/p>\n
\u201cFish sold through our market at 6am can be served on a plate in a South Australian home or restaurant that same evening,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n
