Halfway through the third quarter, with the Crows down 13 points, Jake Soligo appeared to snap a high-arching goal from just outside the goalsquare on a slight angle. <\/p>\n
The adjudicating goal umpire didn\u2019t need any time trying to decide on his decision, almost immediately signalling a goal. <\/p>\n
\u201cGood call, goal umpire. Thought he might\u2019ve went for the score review – (because) he would have seen nothing,\u201d former Power coach Ken Hinkley said in immediate reaction. <\/p>\n
\u201cI reckon it is a brave call by the umpire, actually. That\u2019s what we need in the game – we need them to be brave enough to make that call. <\/p>\n
\u201cBecause even with the score review, we\u2019re not going to tell whether that ball\u2019s gone over the top of the goal post or not \u2026 I just think it\u2019s call what you see.\u201d<\/p>\n
But despite Hinkley\u2019s praise, and just as everything seemed kosher and the ball went back to the centre for the next ball-up, the ARC called for a delayed score review. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey said it was a goal, so they\u2019re going to have to prove it was a point,\u201d Ricciuto said. <\/p>\n
Hinkley chimed in: \u201cYou can\u2019t; I just don\u2019t think you can.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Fox Footy broadcast showed what appeared to be inconclusive vision of Soligo\u2019s kick. <\/p>\n
Audio from the ARC then played: \u201cReview complete – looking at these angles, we can see the ball crosses the line over the top of the goal post. Decision on the scoreboard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dwayne Russell said: \u201cThis will send them crazy; this will send the fans wild, here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ricciuto added: \u201cHow can you turn that over with that (evidence)? \u2026 That\u2019s a little bit crazy, though, isn\u2019t it? You\u2019ve got to prove that that\u2019s a point.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hinkley replied: \u201cHonestly, I\u2019ve got no explanation for you for that, and I don\u2019t believe that\u2019s a turnover decision that they should go with. <\/p>\n
\u201c(It has to be) definitive \u2026 I\u2019d like to ring \u2018Swanny\u2019 (AFL EGM Greg Swann) and say \u2018mate, what do you think that is?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
And Swann, as well as AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon, happened to be in attendance at Adelaide Oval – and as you would have hoped, the cameras panned to them. <\/p>\n
Once the crowd caught wind that they were on the big screen, boos unsurprisingly rained down. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the crowd (are) giving them the reception they expected!\u201d Russell laughed. <\/p>\n
Hinkley added: \u201cGreat decision by our camera people to show them.\u201d<\/p>\n
