And right now at least, he\u2019s what he never wanted to become which is a passenger,\u201d Jon Ralph said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly a handful of games last year \u2013 then he played a great VFL finals series where he convinced himself he could play on again under a one-year deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ralph said Treloar had previously told the Herald Sun: \u201cI never want to play scared again. I can\u2019t run around in the fear of hurting myself. I never want to be a liability to the team\u201d. But Ralph said \u201cit almost felt like he was a liability\u201d in that third term where he spent the majority of it on the exercise bike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/afl\/afl-2026-western-bulldogs-vs-adelaide-crows-round-14-live-scores-and-updates-blog-stats-teams-video-highlights-latest-news\/news-story\/32b08f566a259b58b604c9af75f80c93\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">as his team trailed by 40 points<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dawson dominates Dogs in 1st half | 02:09<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving watched him really closely, he doesn\u2019t play centre square mid but he doesn\u2019t explode away from the contest. Let\u2019s face it \u2026 he wasn\u2019t Robinson Crusoe in terms of being a passenger out there, but you image there\u2019s a decision out there ahead \u2013 do we play other players?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a big decision ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox Footy\u2019s Leigh Montagna and Jason Dunstall agreed there was a conversation to be had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately for him his body doesn\u2019t allow him to do what his mind thinks he can still do,\u201d Montagna said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure there\u2019d be some mental challenges with that as well. That confidence and doubt in his body \u2013 he just doesn\u2019t look anything like the player we know has been an absolute star and it\u2019s been over a two-and-three week period now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some younger players that might have more energy about them with their running capacity that I think deserve a go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your pace is gone, you\u2019re going to be in trouble,\u201d Dunstall said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might be a decision that he makes, as opposed to the club makes. We don\u2019t know \u2013 only he knows exactly how he\u2019s feeling and whether there\u2019s any scope for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Treloar spent the third quarter on the bench.Source: FOX SPORTS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he\u2019s reached the peak of what he can do physically, then there\u2019s no doubt he\u2019s in trouble \u2013 but we don\u2019t know that yet so we\u2019ll wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Treloar was playing just his fifth game in season 2026 \u2013 after managing just four games last year off the back of a string of soft tissue injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The 263-game veteran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/afl\/afl-2025-adam-treloar-emotional-about-latest-calf-injury-setback-when-will-he-be-back-ads-and-dunks-podcast-luke-beveridge-comments\/news-story\/d249ed281a12956e0062cec48b6998f9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">bravely opened up about those calf struggles last year<\/a>, revealing it was the \u201cmost emotional\u201d he\u2019d been following an injury setback last June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to turn off my phone and just gather my thoughts, basically. I have lived and breathed football my whole life \u2014 for my whole life,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>Despite last year\u2019s injury woes, the midfielder still signed a one-year contract extension taking him to the end of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to media after his side\u2019s heavy defeat at Marvel Stadium, Beveridge was adamant it was just a team balance decision to keep Treloar benched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLuke Kennedy\u2019s first game, Luke\u2019s got high endurance. We were working through who should be playing different roles and covering the ground different ways,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought we\u2019d save Adam up for a run at it in the last quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe came on at the start of the last quarter and had an impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo with the five (on the bench), you\u2019re looking for output at different times.
