{"id":30092,"date":"2026-06-12T14:59:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/30092\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T14:59:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:59:14","slug":"one-nation-fundraiser-moved-as-protesters-gather-outside-melbourne-venue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/30092\/","title":{"rendered":"One Nation fundraiser moved as protesters gather outside Melbourne venue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A One Nation fundraiser planned for Friday night in Melbourne was thrown into chaos after the venue scrapped the event, with Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce instead arriving at another location as protesters gathered outside.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators yelled \u201cNazi!\u201d outside the venue and held up signs including \u201cPiss off Pauline\u201d as dozens of police and security personnel could be seen around the building.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hanson said there were \u201ctoo many bookings, people wanting to come\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that\u2019s why we had to change location,\u201d she said. \u201cDo you think I\u2019d be deterred by the protesters?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Victoria Police earlier on Friday said the Moonee Ponds venue was no longer holding the event, with a spokesperson saying the decision was made by the venue. \u201cVictoria Police is not aware of any threats made to the venue or event,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cPolice will maintain a presence in the area due to potential protest activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Protests took place outside Friday night\u2019s event. The Victorian Socialists party posted on social media: \u201cHanson is coming to Melbourne \u2013 we have to set the precedent of real, grassroots opposition to her rabidly pro-billionaire and racist politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hanson and Mr Joyce were to headline \u201cAn Evening for Victoria\u201d, a cocktail function at Moonee Ponds venue Casa Giorgio, which organisers said would bring together business leaders, community figures and supporters seeking \u201ca stronger direction for Victoria\u201d. Tickets started at $200, while attendees could pay $2000 for a private audience with Senator Hanson.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Senator Hanson celebrates the success of One Nation\u2019s anti-Labor fundraising campaign, after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese publicly questioned the authenticity of donations flowing to the party.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, the One Nation leader took to social media to declare the party\u2019s \u201cFire the Liar\u201d fundraising website and its donations tally were \u201cridgy-didge\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday morning, the website reported it had raised $2.9m, edging closer to its stated target of $3.1m.<\/p>\n<p>One Nation is also nearing a decision on who will lead the <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/commentary\/victoria-ink\/one-nation-sets-sights-on-victorian-leader-for-november-election\/news-story\/cfd6bcef37e763b72866327ddaddd563\" target=\"_self\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"cfd6bcef37e763b72866327ddaddd563\" data-tgev-label=\"commentary\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Victorian campaign at the state election<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p> The Australian has previously reported that former Northern Territory chief minister Adam Giles and ex-special forces soldier Heston Russell are among those considered for the role.<\/p>\n<p>Senior party figures believe appointing a high-profile Victorian leader is critical to maximising the party\u2019s chances of winning seats in November, pointing to former senator Cory Bernardi\u2019s profile in South Australia as an example of the electoral benefits of strong state-based leadership.<\/p>\n<p>In March, The Australian revealed Mr Giles quit the Victorian Nationals after being issued a formal \u201cplease explain\u201d over his <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/nation\/politics\/adam-giles-quits-nationals-after-please-explain-over-his-one-nation-support\/news-story\/c31ed25a66eecc3ccbc7347952f917a2\" target=\"_self\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"c31ed25a66eecc3ccbc7347952f917a2\" data-tgev-label=\"nation\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">public backing of One Nation<\/a>.
