A woman who allegedly dealt cannabis in exchange for cat food has been arrested after police uncovered a trove of weapons, drugs and gold bullion in her Northern Territory home.<\/p>\n

NT Police said they started to suspect something fishy after receiving multiple reports of teenagers stealing cat food from a supermarket in the Palmerston suburb of Bakewell in April.<\/p>\n

After the teens were arrested, police said they reported they had been “stealing the cat food to exchange it for cannabis from a woman at a residence in [the suburb of] Gray”.<\/p>\n

In response, police said they executed a search warrant at the home in Gray yesterday morning, where they found nearly 1 kilogram of cannabis and “multiple tablets of schedule 4 drugs”.<\/p>\n

As well as the drugs, police alleged the woman had counterfeit currency and a weapons cache that included eight extendable batons, two tasers, knives and samurai swords.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old was also allegedly stockpiling a “substantial quantity of pure gold and silver coins and bullion with an estimated value of about $35,000, electrical items and approximately $3,850 of Australian currency”, all of which were seized by police.<\/p>\n

Strike Force Trident’s Senior Sergeant Darren Burns said the result reflected “the dedication of our members and their commitment to keeping the community safe”.<\/p>\n

“Removing drugs, prohibited weapons and other illicit property from our streets helps protect vulnerable members of the public,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Strike Force Trident will continue targeting those who seek to profit from criminal activity.”<\/p>\n

Police said the woman was charged last night and had been remanded in custody before her court appearance.<\/p>\n

She is facing a number of charges relating to drug supply, weapons possession, possessing counterfeit money, and possessing tainted property, related to the gold stash.<\/p>\n
