{"id":32741,"date":"2026-06-17T01:23:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T01:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/32741\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T01:23:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T01:23:28","slug":"nsw-budget-state-government-reveals-record-2-1bn-rail-spend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/32741\/","title":{"rendered":"NSW budget: State government reveals record $2.1bn rail spend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A record-smashing annual spend on NSW\u2019s railways is set to be included in the state\u2019s upcoming budget \u2013 with a staggering $2.1bn to be splashed out on upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>The Minns Government will this week announce a raft of projects geared at getting the most out of the state\u2019s rail network.<\/p>\n<p>These include more trains, extra staff and upgrades to signals and overhead wires \u2013 as well as pressing ahead with the major Sydney Metro project.<\/p>\n<p>The major rail investment will see more than $2bn spent across the 2026\/27 financial year, with the state due to announce its budget later this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vast Sydney Trains network of 14 lines, 288 stations and more than 1790 kilometres of track remains the backbone of the rail system and we are investing a record amount to ensure it delivers the reliable service that more than a million passengers a day rightly demand,\u201d NSW Transport Minister John Graham said.<\/p>\n<p>The pledge includes making more than $1bn available for signal and overhead wire upgrades across the network and extra guards and trains for services between Sydney, the Illawarra, Central Coast, Newcastle and the Blue Mountains.<\/p>\n<p>It also includes spending $150m on setting up a new rapid response team for incidents and passenger support.<\/p>\n<p>More than $1bn will be put aside for signal and overhead wire upgrades across the rail network, including capacity improvements as part of the Illawarra Rail Resilience Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Transport secretary Josh Murray said the funding would allow for a \u201cmore integrated approach\u201d across the state\u2019s rail network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant step forward in strengthening the operational foundations of the rail network,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know reliability depends on more than just the recent investments to fleet and infrastructure; it depends on having a well-resources, well-co-ordinated workforce supported by strong planning and decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver time, passengers will see the benefit in more consistent services and a network that is better equipped to handle disruption.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A record-smashing annual spend on NSW\u2019s railways is set to be included in the state\u2019s upcoming budget \u2013&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":32742,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[22,21,1557,5225,6323,2054,5224,5446,2745],"class_list":["post-32741","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-au","tag-austrlia","tag-chris-minns","tag-john-graham","tag-metro","tag-newswire-politics","tag-nsw-budget","tag-rail-network","tag-trains"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32741","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=32741"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32741\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/32742"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=32741"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=32741"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=32741"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
