The docile pup was found at Kierle Park last Thursday morning, 11 June, by a garbage worker and brought to Balgowlah 24\/7 veterinary clinic SASH. It was reported to be in poor bodily condition with overgrown nails. It also had a deep wound on the right side of its body. The RSPCA is investigating.<\/p>\n
Northern Beaches Council Litter Bin Officer, Glenn Ballard, was the one who discovered the abandoned hound when he was servicing the public bins just after 4am.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grabbed the bin like usual, and I felt it didn\u2019t feel right. It felt something was weird, like inside the bin, and I dragged it out into the light, because it was pitch black, and I flipped the lid, and saw just two eyes staring at me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt didn\u2019t make a sound, it didn\u2019t move, it didn\u2019t panic, it didn\u2019t do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

The dog was transported to SASH where it was confirmed the dog was in a bad state, covered in not only new injuries, but also old wounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s pretty horrific, pretty unusual, certainly surprised me that would happen in this area, assuming it did happen in this area,\u201d SASH Vet Tim Hopkins told Manly Observer.<\/p>\n
Ballard said the Rottweiler was very cautious and timid, having to resort to offering the dog food to lure him out of the wheelie bin and into the a towel. Despite the high risk situation of having to capture a potentially hostile, abused animal, the sanitary worker persevered.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, I had to. I love dogs, I love Rottweilers, especially. So, as soon as I saw it, I was like, oh man, this is not good. I\u2019m pretty sure a lot of people would have done the same thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

RSPCA have taken custody of the dog and say he is in a stable condition and is currently receiving veterinary treatment. They issued a statement to Manly Observer on Monday confirming the following:<\/p>\n
RSPCA NSW is appealing for public assistance after a young, male Rottweiler was found dumped inside a wheely bin at Keirle Park, Manly.<\/p>\n
The dog was found by a member of the public in the early hours of June 11, 2026 and presented to a veterinary clinic.<\/p>\n
It had a deep wound on the right side of its body and was in a very poor body condition with overgrown nails.<\/p>\n
The Rottweiler is currently in a stable condition and receiving required veterinary treatment.<\/p>\n
RSPCA NSW Inspectors are urging members of the public with any information, including potential CCTV footage, to please come forward.<\/p>\n
Anyone with information is urged to contact RSPCA NSW at 1300 CRUELTY (1300 278 358).<\/p>\n
