{"id":33207,"date":"2026-06-17T18:18:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T18:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/33207\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T18:18:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T18:18:11","slug":"melville-tennis-floodlights-at-blue-gum-park-tennis-club-become-solar-powered-to-support-net-zero-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/33207\/","title":{"rendered":"Melville tennis: Floodlights at Blue Gum Park Tennis Club become solar powered to support net zero initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A Melville tennis club is making an environmentally-friendly switch to a new solar power system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The Blue Gum Park Tennis Club has received $105,000 in Federal Government funding to installation of a 66kW DC solar system paired with a 96kW battery energy storage system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">WA-based solar provider Westsun Energy designed the system and installed it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">City staff and Federal Tangney MP Sam Lim gathered last Wednesday to celebrate the completed upgrades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Mayor Katy Mair said the new system showed the club\u2019s commitment to adapting to climate change and would significantly improve its facilities\u2019 sustainability and energy efficiency .<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI\u2019m pleased to see the new solar system installed at the Blue Gum Tennis Club, which is a great outcome for the club and for the environment too,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/d473aef58deb75b3ddd61b87fc3e72e6ef49d1eb.jpg\" alt=\"Blue Gum Park Tennis Club floodlights are now solar powered.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconBlue Gum Park Tennis Club floodlights are now solar powered. Credit: City of Melville<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe City of Melville is committed to mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts, in line with our objective of transitioning our organisation to carbon neutrality by 2030 and facilitating community progress to net zero emissions across our local government area by 2050.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe city is actively working to reduce emissions across its infrastructure while also educating the community to reduce emissions across its programs and services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ms Mair said solar power was also economical for the tennis club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIn line with these targets, the installation of this solar system will significantly reduce ongoing electricity costs for the Blue Gum Park Tennis Club, freeing funds for the club to spend on other programs and services,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The facility has 22 courts, including 10 grass courts that are available during summer and 12 floodlit hard and synthetic courts that are in play all year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Melville tennis club is making an environmentally-friendly switch to a new solar power system.
